Thanks to all parents and friends who attended our Primary Years Student Led Conference (SLC) this past weekend. I delayed the publication of this newsletter so we could post some photos of students explaining their work and learning this academic year. I am sure you will join with me in congratulating both teachers and students for their hard work. The digital portfolios that were on display are a new initiative. Previously we had employed paper copies of portfolios. However, we found that many hours of teacher work went into preparing a hard copy of a portfolio. We consider the digital portfolio a natural progression for the school. The benefits are:
1. teachers get to spend more time to concentrate on the teaching and learning process,
2. we are now able to upload videos and photos more readily,
3. we waste less paper and produce a "greener product", and
4. the development allows a more continuous production of the portfolio.
Having gone through the process of producing the portfolios in several formats over the past three years has enabled us to hone our requirements for this form of assessment. I believe the portfolios that will be produced by the end of the year will be a true reflection of the learning progress and outcomes achieved by students over their time at MEA. I thank you for being patient as we refine this product.
